The brain is made up of two hemispheres, the left and the right. The
left brain is responsible for functions such as logic, analysis and
computation. The right brain deals more with areas such as creativity,
imagination and intuition.
The regular curriculum is not designed to enhance and stimulate the
activity of both sides of the brain equally. In essence, our education
system, and science in general, tends to neglect the right hemisphere.
UCMAS aims to make up for this limitation by stimulating the right brain
with the help of mental arithmetic.
Benefits of the Programme
- Photographic Memory
The concept of thinking in pictures helps the student perform better not just in Mathematics but in all subjects. - Listening skills
Constant practice of performing sums dictated by the course instructor sharpens
the listening skills in students. - Concentration
Teaching methodology in UCMAS develops an exclusive attentiveness in
the child and helps him/her to concentrate better - Comprehension
Using the Abacus as a learning tool, and flash cards, leads to better understanding and grasping power. - Presentation
The ancient art of mental math is primarily about arrangement and appearance.
Regular practice improves the presentation skills in young children. - Imagination and Creativity
At a specific stage in the learning process, the abacus is withdrawn from the
student and he/she is expected to work with an imaginary one. This helps to
stimulate the right brain and develop these qualities. - Speed and Accuracy
Constant practice at home helps the child to become more precise and fast at
problem solving. - Self-reliance and self-confidence
Students, at such a tender age, are free from calculators, thereby becoming more self-reliant. Also, due to their enhanced skills, their confidence is significantly boosted.
