about

My kid is an A student in math. Is there a benefit to his learning UCMAS?

A student who has already demonstrated advanced ability in mathematics will benefit greatly from learning with the abacus. UCMAS will help any child to retain knowledge better and become proficient in all subjects, along with enhanced confidence.

Does the programme interfere with the school curriculum?

No, the programme, at all times, is designed to help the students. UCMAS is a course that will provide the student with a skill-set that will help him/her cope up in a better way with the school curriculum.

Why does UCMAS admit children only in the age group of 5 to 13 years?

According to scientific research the maximum development and growth of the brain takes place between the age group of 5-16. Hence, UCMAS is most effective during this critical phase of the child’s education.

A student less than 5 years cannot normally be admitted because the programme requires that he/she be able to recognize the digits 1-9. Similarly a 16 year old may not
be able to appreciate the concept of thinking in pictures because he/she will
be used to looking at numbers the conventional way.

Is there a summer/crash/correspondence course?

NO, the key to this program lies in consistent and steady home practice. Though it is only one class per week, a student is expected to practice the technique everyday for about 10 to 15 minutes. This implies that the course can’t be completed in a shorter span or without the presence of a course instructor.

How does the UCMAS Mental Arithmetic Programme ensure overall academic proficiency?

The result of the UCMAS Mental Arithmetic Programme is not confined to arithmetic only. The concept of thinking in pictures leads to better understanding and enhanced memory, which is basic for all academic studies. Thus, the positive results of this program will have an effect in all subjects.

Who can become course instructor?

  • Anyone with a high school education (or more) and is looking for a career in a non-traditional teaching method.
  • Anyone who has love for children and the ability to keep updating oneself in the latest research and innovative teaching methodologies.
  • Anyone who has the ability to teach students with enthusiasm and help them towards achieving their goals.
  • Anyone who has a strong belief in the programme and can motivate the students to compete in international competitions.
